Key takeaways
- Until new rules take effect, the current form, descriptors and assessment process all still apply.
- If you are completing the form now, describe a typical day honestly, including bad days and help you need but do not get.
- Keep copies of everything and note any deadlines in the letters you receive.
Lots of people have asked us whether the PIP changes affect a claim they are making now. The short answer: until new rules take effect, the current form, the current descriptors and the current assessment process all still apply.
What has changed, and what has not?
The PIP process is under government review, with changes expected from November 2026. Until then the process is unchanged. We follow every announcement and will update our booklet and these guides the moment anything takes effect.
What should I do if I am filling in the form today?
Keep doing what works: describe a typical day, be honest about bad days as well as good ones, and explain what help you need even if you do not currently get it. Our plain-English guide to the PIP form and our explanation of descriptors and points walk through each part.
